What about proms?

How did your prom night go? When I watch American teen movies where there was a prom night scenes, it was always a big thing to become Prom night Queen. They’d go
to great lengths to make it, check the best prom hairstyles and homecoming hairstyles (which is good), nothing wrong about exerting effort to look good, some do a crash diet if needed, etc. And there are those who even decide to give up themselves up for the first time on that night.
But in the Philippines, it seems simpler. Of course, it would be good to become prom night Queen but it wasn’t the focus, it was about having a great time wearing a nice pink gown and feel special. Enjoy a fine dance with a cool date and just enjoy the night away. And to do something more than a kiss is not very common, I just don’t know these days, I had my prom night 18 years ago lol…
I skipped Senior prom in favor of some adventure with my then boyfriend Paul P., hmmm, what are you thinking? We just went for a night drive after dinner.
I was watching Tyra Banks show, and was being featured was four (4) young girls who were given a Hollywood like party, asked to drink alcohol, flirt or even go out with a guy, and taste drugs. These party is recorded without them knowing it.
During the show was Tyra with the girls and their respective parents. The videos where shown with some of the girls saying no to drugs, alcohol and a make out, while others showing succumbing to the temptation. The parents who’s kid said no was very proud and disappointed to those who did otherwise.
Tyra relates that one doesn’t have to give in to peers invitation just to fit in when they know it is not good. Like she herself didn’t do drugs and yet managed to become what she is today.
One parent said, “you clearly are a follower and not a leader by giving in”… hearing that from ones own parent is definitely painful. But True!
A former prom night queen was later called in to join the show, and this girl narrates that she was the most popular girl in school, the envied girl and all that, with the best guy as her boyfriend. She enjoyed the attention so much, partied to her hearts content and had sex with her bf during prom night then on and on. Now, she is mother to 3 kids at 20 years old, not able to finish college, and living a difficult life.
Girls, don’t give in to peer pressure, learn to say no when needed, enjoy yourself but also know your limits.
