Mahjong

None of of my parents gambled and so playing cards with money involved was never a thing in our home. But in our vacation house, we had cards and mahjong sets because my cousins play.

During summer time, most of us go to the province for the usual one month vacation. I was grade 5 when i was introduced by elder cousins how to play lucky nine and 45…then later mahjong.

As they figured that i somehow got the game, we played with some coins which turned out to become bills of P5 and P10…since they are somewhat experts in those games, i lost all my summer money…lol… My mom learned about it and i got some scolding…my aunt learned about it too and gave me money again because i lost all mine to her kids…

Playing like we did before was really just for fun, a bonding and a social thing…but today, playing has evolved from playing face to face to playing on the net in an online casino.  That’s really serious gambling…it’s no longer just to play games to have fun with family and friends but to lose or make some luck bucks.

I attended a Trade Show some two weeks ago where i was given a business magazine called Enterprise, it is a back issue released May 2007.

One article talks about how much the sales growth of LCD plasma tv’s and monitors have grown. It is reported that 19,000,000 units was sold last year and it is expected to quadruple in the next 3 years.

This gives me an idea of what product to sell online. I am thinking of launching a shopping cart purposely for selling LCD Tv’s.  Still figuring out how to make this happen, but definitely, the desire to do it is there, and planning is underway which starts with a feasibility study.

I am considering naming my shopping cart http://gadgets.com.ph

Importance of having an insurance

When i attended a Financial Literacy Seminar, it dawned on me how important it is to have an insurance.  I know that for most of us, being sold anything especially insurance is probably the least priority…particulary in the Philippines setting where a majority would rather purchase a new gadget that pay for insurance coverage, but we should give insurance salesmen a chance to explain what they’ve got.

Two years ago, my dad suffered from Aplastic Anemia which resulted to his eventual passing after 5 months of battling with it.  It was a very rare and costly disease to deal with…and so it depleted literally all our savings, but we don’t regret it.  After my dad was put to his last office (grave), his insurances like term life insurance gave my mom something to move around with. We also used his insurance plans to lessen his hospital bills.

It seems like insurance is just paper, but mind you, it does help a lot, and the need to have it and the use of it is real. All you have to make sure of, is to get it from a reputable insurer so that when you need it, it’s going to be there.  I am saying this because one of my dad’s insurers went bankrupt and so until now, no claims has been released even if their company continue to operate.  They are still waiting for their real property holding to be sold before they could fund claims again.

It is highly recommended that you seriously consider getting some form of insurance for you family’s peace of mind when the need arise.
