5 Levels of a Man’s Needs

No Gravatar

I honestly didn’t know much about MASLOW’s Hierarchy of Needs until I about three years ago when it was explained indepth in nursing school. And it has become an indispensable guide for nurses.

Let me share it with you.

5 LEVELS of Man’s needs

1. PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS which includes Air, Water, Food, Shelter, Sleep and Sex. In today’s condition, it should be emphasized that people need, “Clean” Air, “Clean” Water, “Clean and Real” Food, “Clean Shelther”, Restful “Sleep” and “Safe” Sex.  To live healthy has truly become more than easy, it takes effort and commitment, not only to ones self but also the environment for everyone and the next generation to have their physiological needs met too.

Physiologic needs means “Basic needs”-  for proper human function. But look at the earth today, trash is a major problem, how can we have clean air? Let’s learn to handle our rubbish correctly, we can put them in the trash cans and not throw anywhere. Water is getting contaminated by spillage, the beaches with water bottles and food wraps. I know it’s not easy going agains Corporate giants involved in big environmental mishaps, but we can at least do what we can to keep our own surrounding clean. Food are being modified to become “instant”/fast foods, which makes people’s lives almost instant too.  There are kids as young as 9 years old dying of kidney failure after two years of dialysis because of junk food. Instead of patronizing processed food, try to go for real food-organic fruits, vegetables and fresh meat. Premarital and multiple sex partners lead to STD‘s that break ones body, fragments the soul and crushes the spirit. Try to limit having monogamous relationship and preferably within the bond of marriage.

2.  SAFETY and SECURITY. One needs to have a sense of being in a place and company of people that where one can be comfortable with, unthreatened and protected. We can be the first to offer this to others.

3. LOVE and BELONGINGNESS. One needs to love and be loved, and know that he or she belongs to someone or to a family or group of people who accepts him or her unconditionally. We can share our love to others and welcome them to belong to us, as friends ( even on a social network :-) ), as co-workers, as family members, as churchmates.

4. SELF-ESTEEM. One needs to love one’s self and accept one’s self.  Learn to see your strengths and praise yourself for all the good you see and know you have. Let’s be lavish with our praise to others too.

and

5. SELF-ACTUALIZATION. Having Vitality, Creativity, Self-sufficiency, Authenticity, Playfullness and Meaningfulness. Find out if you are a Self-Actualized person and learn how you can be one, in case you’re not yet one.

The graph below best illustrates the order of importance  from Bottom Up.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

If an individuals needs in this hierarchy aren’t met, there can be issues or sources of stress that could take place in a person and may lead to sickness, physical or even mental condition that should be addressed.

We can help each other make our lives better.

My 7 ways of Physically preparing for the board

No Gravatar

Healthy Mind begins with a healthy body. This is one the bylines at Fitness First Gym, where I was a member. I am now with Slimmers World for practicality reasons. Anyway, I would like to share that I intent to shape up in line with my reviews for a healthier body and a healthier mind.

I am currently reviewing for the Nursing Board exam scheduled in November 28-28, 2009. And the amount of books to read, test questions to go through, values to memorize and health concepts to internalize is quite overwhelming. So i thought I might as well prepare well for it. I will do my very best to get at least eight (8) hours of sleep, eat healthy and exercise. Pretty much the basics, the result of this is a win win for my me, I get to shape back to my desired weight plus I can have better concentration and focus. Congratulations to my batch mates who took the board ahead of me and already  made it, Julie, Carol, Winne, Lawrence, Jenny, and more.

Is the board exam really that hard? Some say it is, some say (after taking and passing it) it was easy. Our lecturer at SEAMED where i am currently enrolled said its easy too, she got a loud complain and facial reactions on her remark of course lol. She said, just understand the concept and you will pass the board. The thing on my case is, I don’t have a lot of stock knowledge about nursing to be quite honest. I read my books, but not a lot because I am a working student. I have barely four months to read and do so much so i have to prepare and plan to cover what i need.

Anyway, let me share with you what I do when i want to be in shape in more detail.

1. I drink lukewarm water, about 2 glasses upon waking up. This helps shed off residue of my dinner off of my tummy for elimination. So less fat staying inside, and my villi (which absorbs)
nutrients from food, gets unclogged.corn-flakes

2. I eat less or no rice. I have been a cereal and oat meal eater for the longest time, particularly Quaker Oats and Nestle Corn Flakes, with fruits or raisins.

Let me show the Food Pyramid…which is your best guide to proper nutrition.

3. I take water 30 minutes before meal so I don’t get thirsty during meal (but i have water ready just in case i really need to sip), then I drink water 30 minutes after eating. The reason behind this is because, when we eat, gastric juices come out to sort of grind our meal for digestion, but if water enters the stomach while the gastric juice is working up, it will cause it to stop or delay digestion, resulting to food staying in your system longer and more chances of having excess fat.

4.  Tummy cleanse. One cleansing I was taught was to do a “Calamansi Clean” (Philippine version of Lemon). I do it once a month. This will cause a bit of a diarrheal effect so do it only when you are staying home to take your CR Trips to defacate. Squeeze 12 large pieces of Calamansi into 1 Liter of Clean Water (ex. purified/mineral),then add 1 teaspoon of iodized salt. Mix that, then drink the juice within 30 minutes first thing in the morning. This will have a cleansing effect on your digestive track. Then your body will be more ready to absorb nutrients from the fruits, vegetables and other health food you eat. (It goes both ways when you eat junkies, your body will absorb
junk instead).

For a change, I will do a Gall Stone Flush for the very first time. After many years of eating all kinds of food, I surely have some stones in my gall which I want to get rid of without surgery. I’ll be on an Apple Juice and Pineapple Juice Fast for 3 days, then I will take the Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Lemon Juice on the 4th day. I will couple this Liquid fast with prayer, sort of a liquid prayer and fasting. Priority is to pass the board exam of course, among other important prayer requests.

5. I work out at least 3 x a week. Taebo advanced (1 Hour) has proven to be the best for me when I want to shed off fat. There is an 8 Minute version which you can do 5x a week or a 20 minute version to begin with. I sometimes alternate Taebo with Hip Hop Abs workout. But right now, my last 3 workouts habody-jam-les-millsd been Body Jam (a Free CD that came with the Nestle Fitness Cerea) by Les Mills. I just love it. I like the moves, i really missed dancing, i remember when I was younger, I would dance around the house on the tune of Reggae (I am beach bum remember), or whatever was new. One time I even choreographed a dance for my sister and her friends for a contest, and they won 1st price.lol… I also like Belly Dancing, I’ll probably do this next (another win win, i shape up and will learn how to do a private dance for my lucky man lol)…

6. I take time to relax too. :-) A visit to the salon, spa, and maybe squeeze some dine outs with family, friends and maybe someone special lol (oh, can i already do this now, didn’t i just break up?!) lol…Do online games like Street of Dreams in between watching video lectures, write an article here to de-stress or do a quick visit in facebook and stuff like that.

So there goes my preparation plan for my review. I have to read so much and do test takings so I am believing God for a breakthrough to understand and internalize the concepts so i can pass the board and hopefully do it well given the short time to prepare. I am really relying on God for all.

More than the 6 listed above, these THREE  (3) Things are the  MOST IMPORTANT THINGS to do!

1. PRAY! PRAY! PRAY!
2. READ… READ… READ… and
3. Show up and take the Board Exams! lol….

That’s about six things to do, am i not over reacting for my board? well maybe lol, case to case basis, my other classmates didn;t even attend a review class and yet passed, but i am not them lol…I know myself, and i know i need to do these.

Oh, here is our prayer at SEAMED Nursing Review Class…

Our Most Gracious Father in Heaven, from all bounties flow, provider of all goodness, we come to you with a humble heart to bring forth praises as we marvel each day the gift of wisdom upon us, that we may endow this knowledge to aid our minds in the hurdle of our exam and may you help us do the best that we can, and by then we become the instruments of Your healing, to those who need our care and to the lives we will inspire. Truly, this is a gift from you. All these we pray through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Now that I have published that I am taking the board, I am forced to pass it! hahaha…This is my challenge to myself.

I will let you know my progress…I’ll update you when I pass (i can tell you then if board exam is really hard lol) and what my health and shape will be. I hope you got something from what I share. God bless.
