About 4 years ago, I worked with an International trading firm where I directly reported to the President.And we had a Manager who was in charge of communicating to him about a certain group of marketing people. And one time during a meeting where this manager was seeing the marketing people, I was asked to pitch in and gather some information for the following quarter’s recommendations to improve our work flow.After the meeting, the manager and I went to make some updates with the President. Incidentally, this person has been very good in building himself up with the President and I knew he was favored.
He then began to make reports which I believe were not exactly what happened. Even before he was giving the details, he was already making this look that he wasn’t pleased with the way the sales people talked to him, made negative comments on particular personalities in the meeting. I wanted to speak up and correct him but decided not to because I know I will just look stupid.
The long and short of it is, the President has been making decisions based on the wrong information.I couldn’t stand the way this person lied about the situation and my stomach ached, and asked to be excused. I then made a written recommendation of how I believe things can improved and it was done in a way that would question the verbal report my colleague earlier made.The President believed him and disregarded that part of my recommendation.I gave up the job and within a year or less, that Company closed.
When I had a chance to speak with the President a few months after the company closed, he told me that he should have listened to me and others who were giving him some thoughts of not believing everything told him by that manager.
How do you make decisions? Are you sure that you are basing your decision based on facts and not some people’s opinion of a fact? It would help to get a reliable and dependable business performance management company to handle sensitive data in your company. This way you can make the right decisions that will bring your organization to a good direction.
I attended a Trade Show some two weeks ago where i was given a business magazine called Enterprise, it is a back issue released May 2007.
One article talks about how much the sales growth of LCD plasma tv’s and monitors have grown. It is reported that 19,000,000 units was sold last year and it is expected to quadruple in the next 3 years.
This gives me an idea of what product to sell online. I am thinking of launching a shopping cart purposely for selling LCD Tv’s. Still figuring out how to make this happen, but definitely, the desire to do it is there, and planning is underway which starts with a feasibility study.
Are you venturing in a business that will require huge capitalization? If your answer is yes, you probably did a feasibility study already, if not, make sure to do your due diligence before jumping in.
A lot of businessmen lost their shirts for rushing things.Preparedness gets you closer to success. Certain business ideas and concepts seems to be very exciting because of its viability on paper, but implementing a business plan is not as simple as looking at figures and reading lines. It entails literally involving people, time and money.
Say for example you saw a property with a breathtaking view, and thought, maybe building a Resort Hotel would be a great, with the grand view and all that, you envision it to be a guaranteed success.What you do is look for the property owner and bought it. Then you get the work started on the design and plans, hired people to do creative marketing concepts, etc…only to find out, that the land can’t hold a huge building because the soil is not up for it. Gosh, that would be huge money lost on everything that was started.
It is highly recommended that your do your Phase 1, conduct a checking do your due diligence to survey the area and all you could gather before investing serious money.It is better to spend for checking than spend so much more by starting a project that wasn’t carefully checked.
