What did God designed man to do

No Gravatar

Our series this week is called BLUEPRINT: The Plan of God for Man in the Garden.

The world has it’s own definition of how a man should be.

Like for example…the Marlboro Man…a real man should smoke or something…

James Bond…must be skilled in fighting

Superman…must be a Superhero

What man doesn’t  want to be known for? Lazy, Mediocre or a workaholic among others.

What is a real man survey? Some says…real men don’t ask for directions on the road..its why they easily get lost lol, or real men doesn’t drink water when eating something spicy and bear it…

People has a lot of ideas about how man should be. But what did man’s creator created man to be? What is God’s real intended design?

Let’s see what Genesis 2:2-3 has to say…

By the seventh day God had finished the work

Yes, God does work. Because God himself does it, it means work is good.

On V.8 God planted…

in verse 7 it says..Then the LORD God formed a man

God formed man…Formed means Yatsar-to shape or to mold. God created! He worked.

in Verse 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

He designed the garden of Eden for man to work it…remember the

2 Reasons why God put Adam in the garden

  1. To work it
  2. To take care of it

In the work that we do, are we really working it? are we taking care of what God has given us?  God created Adam first…only Man and God to fellowship with…but God is awesome he created Eve from Adam’s rib to be a helpmate. What matters most  first is our relationship with Him then our spouse, our loved ones, possessions he has entrusted to care for. We must work it…we must take care of it! God must be a partner in everything he has given us.

We can’t emphasize enough that Man was designed to partner with God in work. He wanted us to have fellowship with him, to be in the business of taking care of his creation, it includes taking care of yourself, work out…taking care of your spouse, she was created from you…taking care of your assets..land and properties God has given you to use for his glory not just pleasure.

Only God can create something out of nothing. He made us sub-creators, because we are created in God’s image, we have that nature to work and create.

Adam means Mankind

Ha-Adam means The Man

Ha-Adamah means The Ground from which he was taken from – you see the connection of man and the soil. We were created from dust and to dust we shall return.

But when Adam and Eve disobeyed. Things changed, they had to work to eat

Gen.3:17

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.

So today, some of  us look at work as just something to do.  We tell ourselves, I will keep this work to make enough money and do what I really want to do. But you see, God designed work to be joyful and a blessing.

God promised to bless the work of our hands..not the hands..but the works of it.

How do we measure the value of our work? Is it according to your pay? The status it gives you? The recognition you receive from it? We must value it because God designed work.

Hierarchy of work? Remember Jesus was a carpenter. It doesn’t matter how you think significant or insignificant your work is. All work matters, when you work to glorify God.

  1. SIN Severed the partnership with God. When our partnership with God was cut when we disobeyed, we lost the real reason to work which was to enjoy fellowship with God as we do it. Work now became a place to find one’s identity and meaning of life.  The real value of work is supposed to be doing it in relation to being with God. Work became an Idol, it became a curse. Today’s effect of work to people is restlessness…We must always impress the boss and strive so hard we even need to work on a Sunday, even if God himself rested from all his work on the seventh day. We deal with restlessness by going to the malls, buying more DVD’s to watch, more gaming, more FB.

In a biography of Madonna done by Mary Cross…Madonna says she has an Iron will to do and succeed..but the end of it there is still mediocrity…that it’s uninteresting.

People get bound to the threadmill of performance…why? Because we lost our partnership with God.

  1. JESUS redeemed the work through the cross. We got free from the need for affirmation. Our value – is life in and with Jesus
  2. Jesus gives us freedom from restlessness. We are secured in the heavenlies. He frees us from the need to save ourselves, he did it all on the Cross.

Free your self from the cycle of needing to be significant by your own works. Accept Jesus in your life today, he worked it all for you. If you Want to accept Jesus Christ and find meaning in what you do? Please pray with us.

Find joy in what you do, by restoring your partnership with God in all you do.

The above are notes from church preaching by Ptr. Dan Harder at Victory Quezon City, with some of the thoughts I had as I listened. We invite you to come visit us at GT Toyota at UP Diliman, we have services all through out the day on Sundays, and we met all across the city on middle of the week for small group bible lessons.

2 Mistakes Christians make in view of the Enemy

Learning from Ephesians 6

2 Mistakes Christians make in view of the Enemy

1.)     MAGNIFIES the ENEMY
Making him look like he is bigger than he actually is. We visualize
them as monstrous, massive demonic creatures. And the Angels, we
visualize as Tiny little babies with wings. If it was a match between
the 2, to whom would you bet, right?
Do not think he is bigger than our God! Never! God who is in us is
greater than he who is in the world.

2.)     MINIMIZES the ENEMY
You  may think he is too small and easy for you to handle and he is
not enough to get through you. Do not underestimate your opponent.

It is wrong to magnify him, it is also wrong to minimize him. There is
a spiritual warfare going on, and you and I must FOCUS on JESUS. The
author and finisher of our faith.

It is said, A nation with an enemy but does not know it is unsecure!
Know you have an enemy!
And he has a Scheme! – “methodia” –deviously and carefully thought out
plan, systematically designed to damage you and  your life as a
Christian and get you off track with your relationship with God. He
has a scheme against you, he knows exactly what your weaknesses are
and he will use it to damage you. Beware of temporary pleasure.

There is this man who parked his car outside his house. When he was
ready to go, he found out his car battery has been stolen. He was mad
and all that, and moved on to where he was going taking a cab. After a
few days, by his door is a brand new battery with an envelope.  A
letter apologizing to him for getting his battery, saying, “my car
broke right by your car and battery was dead so I took yours, was in a
hurry coz I was taking my wife to the hospital about to give birth. If
not for your battery, my wife and baby would have not made it. In
gratitude, I got you a brand new battery and two tickets to the front
seat of the NFL game this weekend”.  He’s like wow it’s my favorite
team playing this weekend. The man was touched that he got to actually
help someone plus got a brand new battery and got tickets to his
favorite team’s game.  Him and his wife went to the game, had fun and
really enjoyed it from their front seats! When they got home, and
opened their house…the house was next to empty! They’ve been schemed
from day 1! Just when they left for the game, a trailer pulled and got
all their stuff and ran away with it while they enjoyed an NFL game!

Beware of the devils schemes! It will plan things out just when you get off your guard…to DESTROY YOU!

6 Devil’s Scheme
1.      Accusation – He would accuse you to the core, you did this, you did
that, you’re bad, you’re hopeless.

2.      Condemnation – He will tell you, you don’t match up… You are not
praying enough, not sharing Jesus enough.

3.   Isolation – He will do everything to isolate you from your family,
from your Spiritual family, from every family you have all together.
Remember, no devourer (like Lion’s) will attack a full herd, he will
strike and go for the strayed one.  The enemy will make you feel you
are not a part of…church, family, God’s family.

4.      Temptation – His scheme will be like dangling glitters, he will use
something/someone particularly interesting to you. An admirable man or
woman at school or work will give you time and listen to you, hear out
your issues and complains, maybe you will start sharing your marital
issues, next thing you know, you are getting comforted and jumping
into an affair. Be mindful who you have coffee with as they say,
especially if it’s the opposite sex, even while you think you are just
ministering!

5.     Deception – He will offer you an idea that will make you feel it’s
best for you. Without asking God, it seems like it’s the right thing.

6.      Distraction – If after all the 5 schemes fail…and still you won’t
sin, still you choose to obey God and seek God. The enemy will simply
distract you so you don’t communicate and relate with God. Things that
doesn’t seem damaging as much as what is clearly sin…As simple as
making you watch a show instead of pray. Keep you busy at work or
business that you no longer do devotion…Anything to distract you away
from God.
What is the Remedy? How do we go against the devil’s schemes?

1.      BE STRONG – Ephesians 6: 10-13

I’m not talking about being muscular, showing off and flexing like
you’re hulk and a health buff, although that is also good, physical
fitness has it’s benefit.  Be strong in the LORD. Be strong the way
Jesus was strong! How?

You must have Jesus’ attitude. Have the nature of a Servant…Obedient,
even to death!

Divinity comes from humility…

Strength comes from weakness…it is acknowledging your absolute need of
God’s grace.

My grace is sufficient for you…Acknowledging that God’s power is
perfected in our weakness. The CROSS was the greatest display of
Weakness.

TRUE HUMILITY is an Accurate understanding of what we really are
stripped of God’s grace. It’s having the knowledge that we are more
wicked than we can think possible with out Him. See God…see what you
are… When we look at the Cross…see the cost of our sin…the life of the Son of God.
The physical pain Jesus felt on the cross was not the most
painful thing, although he bore the pain no man can ever do, Jesus
didn’t say…My feet my feet! What Jesus said was My God, my God why
have you forsaken me….The greatest pain was separation from His
Father. To be separated from our Father God is the most painful thing
in life..to be separated from Him means not having the love, the
grace, the peace he wants us to have. You and I …so sinful, so flawed,
so wicked!
Look at the cross with Humility!

2) CONFIDENCE
The Cross is the greatest display of weakness…The Cross is also the
greatest display of Strength.

On the Cross, the Son of God defeated the power of sin! Defeated the
Power of death and the power of the devil!

JESUS disarmed the devil. That’s our Confidence!

How? Remember the more you try to be confident on our own, the more
you will get insecure
.
TRUE Confidence is having an accurate understanding of who you
are…Because of Grace, we can have the confidence that God loves us and
will take care of us. Look at the cross! See how loved and affirmed we
are, see what God was willing to give for us. His one and only
begotten Son! You will know when you are loved and how much you are
loved based on what the other person is willing to give you and for
you… his time, his involvement in your life, his plans in life with
you and for you. God’s plan involves you and I in eternity with
him,the word says I am preparing a place for you.

If not for the cross. You and I will just be as evil as the devil. As
doomed as him. But Because of the Cross, because of what God gave, we
can be victorius.

God has given us the power for life and godliness. No weapon formed
against us can prosper!

Want to accept Jesus Christ in your life today? Pray with us.

My verse for 2010, Proverbs 21:21

No Gravatar

I was doing my devotion yesterday and God gave me Proverbs 21:21 as a theme verse for 2010.
21 He who pursues righteousness and love
finds life, prosperity [a] and honor.

I didn’t notice how 21 appeared in both the verses and the year, just now, pretty cool.

And today the word is very much related to it. Let me share the notes I jotted down from the preaching of the Word by Ptr. Edgar at Victory Center, UP Film Center.

Hosea 10 :12
12 Sow for yourselves righteousness,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the LORD,
until he comes
and showers righteousness on you
How do we seek God.
3 Ways to seek God?
1. The right Seed – Sow for yourselves righteousness.
What you sow is what you reap.
Choices we make and actions we take are seeds.

We have to sow the seeds of righteousness ourselves. Our parents, significant, others or pastors can’t do it for us. We must sow seeds of righteousness ourselves.

What is righteousness? It is being in the right standing with God.

2. The Right Soil – “and break up your unplowed grounds and reap the fruits of unfailing love.
Unused or idle soil are hardened with weeds.
In the parable of the Sower, it talked about different soils representing different hearts. How receptive we are on the word being planted in our hearts.

A hardened heart- a heart that resists what God wants to do with us.
A hardened soil will have weeds and thorns that make planting unhealthy or unproductive.

To name two weeds that can harden our soil (our hearts) is Pride and Disobediences.

Daniel 5: 20
20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.

Hebrews 3:13
13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Our conscience can be calloused & desensitized, because of repeatedly ignoring the heed of the Holy Spirit, our hearts become callous and can no longer hear.

A broken spirit, He will not despise.

Sometimes we can surrender all areas of our hearts except one, something we don’t want given over to God, such as some addictions, sexual immorality, adultery, ungodly relationships or practices, un forgiveness.

Break it up, till the soil, and trust God to deal with it.

What happens if we don’t break it? Weeds crowd out.

There is this teenager who grew up in a Godly home who was asking her mom if she could watch a movie with friends. The movie will seem to show a lot of obscenity, but since everyone is watching, it would probably be fine.

Her mom said she doesn’t recommend it, but while they prepare dinner, the teener insists coz it seems acceptable. Her mom just finished doing the salads, and while she cleans up, instead of putting the peeling from the potatoes in the trash, she put it on the salad. The daughter got surprised and asked why her mom would do that. Her Mom replied, that’s what happens when you go out there and see an obscene film, it’s like putting garbage to your soul and spoil the rest of it, and can no longer be useful. If you can put garbage to your soul, maybe you wouldn’t mind putting garbage to your body.

Whether that is a true story or not, we get the picture.

Deliberate compromising will make our heart callous. We can’t have the concept of abusing God’s grace, compromise and ask forgiveness after.

3. Right Time –“until he comes & showers Righteousness on you” Some are very impatient. Lord, bless me and I will obey, if you don’t then I won’t follow you.
Don’t give up on seeking the Lord, in due time you will reap a harvest of blessings.

If you have a bank account that gets a daily credit of USD 86,400 a day but at the end of the day goes down to zero even if you withdraw from it or not, unspent amount is not credited to the next day, what would you do? Withdraw it everyday and spend it, right?

Every day, you are given 84,600 seconds to do what is right and plant seeds of righteousness for a harvest of blessing you will not have enough room to contain it.

One way to seek God is by doing prayer and fasting. We invite you to join us from Jan. 8-14, 2010 for a 7 Day prayer and fasting.
