Kalibo Town Plaza

All streets were closed for motorists in the four corners of Aklan Town Plaza. One will surely notice the very beautiful and gigantic Tree in the midst of it that served as a good shade at high noon for tourists and locals enjoying the “Sad-sad” – Parade walk. This photo was taken the day before the highlight of the event where Ati-Atihan Festival participants already come in Tribal Costumes in black painted bodies.

Parading of Aklanons in Drums and themed shirts started Jan. 18. 2008. Almost all towns were represented as well as major Institutions like the Colleges and Major Organizations.

My memory went full taking shots and video of the happenings here at the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan. I came here at the internet cafe to upload some of the videos so can free up space in my cam.

My last joined this event when i was only 5 years old…I am glad to be back here after such a long time, and its really worth it coming over…

Watch the festivities as it happen today…

Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo Aklan January 2008

The Ati-Atihan Festival here is a blast…street party, drums beetings, people dancing and just having fun in all the festivities. Yesterday there was a Parade of the Higantes (Giants).

The Ati-Atihan started as a celebration when the Malayons purchased the Panay Island from Ati King and his wife. Then every year there after, it is celebrated in memory there of.

People from all over the country and tourists from all over the world come to witness this exciting event.

Enjoy…Hala BIRA!!!
