My niece Richie was here in Manila for a month from Nov 11 to Dec 11, 2008, and we only had my laptop to use.  We were taking turns using it..lol..we both need to be online a lot because of Boracay Stations, our Boracay Resort online business to attend to clients inquiries and booking. So i decided that we should get a desktop for her use. As a result, we got to arrange more bookings…particularly for Boracay Breeze.

HP 17 Inch LCD Screen with built in mic and speakers

I think i need to upgrade the RAM to 3GB or at least 2GB, i find it kind of slow using VISTA with only 1GB RAM.

I had my first HP laptop (had 2 IBM’s and NEO), last year, and since then it became my brand of choice. I would like to have a MAC of course and a SONY Vaio, but its not in my budget range yet lol.  A MAC and SONY Vaio gift would be most welcome :-) and will highly appreciated for sure…sponsors anyone?!

Compaq CQ 40

My brother brought me to Glorietta to take a look at a laptop he wants to buy, and when i saw it, i liked it too.   We both ended up buying one for each of us.  We got it at the Gadget Show which runs until Dec 31,2008  i think. He upgraded his to 2GB RAM, while mine is 3GB to meetthe demands of my work. We are using Windows Vista OS. I like this CQ40 (14 inch) better than my other Compaq C793TU which is 15.4 inch LCD Screen because it’s smaller. Easier for me to carry around. I originally wanted the Compaq 2133 but its too small for my daily use, i think it will be useful for me only for travel and making presentations. For now, im good with this.

I am enjoying, it except for the “tick” sound i kept hearing from time to time. I had it checked at TCA where i bought it and they said i should observe it and if it doesnt go away, i can just bring it to them.  I hope nothing serious, just some setting problem.

TCA (Total Computer Authority) tech people installed everything for me, including the Windows Vista and the IDT to make sure my external mic and speakers work. Without the IDT, my headset wouldn’t work.

It was Gerry who assisted me and my brother, he was very helpful.

I had driver installation problems but its a good thing, PC Live provided me some drivers, phone assistance

and got some help on the instructions at the HP forum too.

I just followed this instructions from Cheryl G.

Most XP drivers from V6700TX will work for your model. Install Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH8 first and reboot before other drivers.(do not use Realtek)

(see below also before continuing with other drivers):

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&a
mp;product=3651452〈=en

.Net Framework(before Quick Launch):

==============

Atheros Ar5007(install only the drivers,no extra Utilies):

===============

MS UAA(required with a reboot before Conexant audio):

http://www.mediafire.com/?4ben9zlesng

Conexant SmartAudio 221:

http://www.mediafire.com/?dg0cmmkm4y4

Use this for audio.Unzip to a folder,make note of location.

From Device Manager,right click “Audio Device on HD”,choose Update driver,

No to connect,

Install from a list or specific location,

Select Don’t Search, I will choose the driver to install,

For the Hardware Type select ‘Show All Devices’

Remove the check from “Show Compatible Hardware” and click on “Have Disk”.

Next…browse to the unzipped folder and choose the “WiSVHe5.inf”.

Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.

Soft Data Fax Modem:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37982.exe

However, the Wifi Button is still in color amber instead of blue, and the built in mic doesnt seem to work.

I use voip a lot so that’s a problem to me, i used a headset instead. But would really want the built in to work so i don’t have to carry around a headset all the time.

PC Live gave me a Memory upgrade to 1.5GB Ram, a 1 GB Flash Drive, plus an instruction how to claim a 1GB Ipod Shuffle from HP (i got a call already saying it’s ready for pick- up.) :-)

If you are looking for cheap laptops, consider getting at least a realiable brand, even if they offer lower specs than generic higher specs, and make sure it has warranty in case something comes up.
