When I got out of church yesterday, i saw a DVD showing two guys climbing at mountain caught my eye and so i bought it for Doug, just taking the chance that he might not have watched it yet, but he had lol…If he hasn’t I wanted to wait for him to arrive next month and we’ll watch it together, like we watched Fireproof together, so since he’d seen it, I watched it already lol, with my Mom, sister Ming and housemate Tess.

It’s a story of two mountain climbers (played by Jason and Ned) who saved another climber Josh who got into an accident that could have costed him his life. Josh’s Father happened to be very wealthy and wanted to thank the heroes who saved his son by helping them make their dream of climbing a Mountrain in Chile come true. And there the moving story of team work, sacrifice and life changing experiences took place.

Ned believed in God and shared his faith with Jason who doesn’t care much about faith or anything less than his passion for climbing. The challenges they encountered tested their personal capacities and realized it takes more than just the will to make it.

It’s a movie every mountain climber or sports man should watch, however, it’s really a movie for all to appreciate. Try to get a copy of this DVD and be touched by a heartwarming story of a man going after dreams, a man of integrity that shapes ones future and a God who has our best interest in mind.

5 Things  learned from the movie, The Climb?
1. Passion brings success.

When we are passionate about what we are doing, to the point that we are willing to do it even if we don’t get paid, we become excellent in it and we will serve before Kings. Meaning we will gain favor when we do things the best way we can with commitment and dedication.

Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.
Proverbs 22:29

2. Integrity is prime..

Ned said “my integrity is not for sale”, I believe in this very strongly myself. To be truthful and honest in our dealings no matter what it takes. We are do serve with all honesty at all times.
In my walk as a Christian I had my own share of putting myself in compromising situations, but thank God for his grace and forgiveness when we ask for it, and we can get back on our feet and take the high road.

Proverbs 3:3-4
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

3. Take Responsibility
Family is the most important institution on earth and so our significant other and family members are to be our priority and making every effort to build a strong relationship will give us the most fulfillment.
There is an emptiness in our hearts that only God can fill, no amount of success can do.

Proverbs 13:10
Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
We can’t be all knowing, we need wisdom to make decisions specially the toughest ones.

4. Dream Big

We have to fill our thoughts of what we want and believe God for it.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

5. Train and be ready to achieve your Dream

We can view some parts of life like a serious game that needs to be won for us to have significant results and achieve a certain level of success that gives us rewards. That only happens when we win. I believe in the saying that success comes to those who are prepared. And preparation and training must be holistic, body, mind, soul and spirit.

1 Corinthians 9:25

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

I hope you can grab a copy of this film and watch it. I got the DVD from Victory Christian Fellowship bookstore at UP Diliman – Film Center.

It’s so powerful that it has the power to change ones’ life.

TOP FIVE 5 LIFE CHANGING WORDS
1. Thank you
2. I love you
3. Will you marry me?
4. Yes
5. I do
And on the negative side
1. I hate you
2. Bobo/Tanga (Stupid)
3. You will never amount to anything

James 3: 2-10

2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.

3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

What can we do to tame it?
Tongue has the capacity to lead our destiny

Karen Carpenter- died of anorexia because his brother Richard Carpenter called her chubby.

You see, life and death is in the power of the tongue.

A survey was done with 100 married couples in America, and it was found that for every day, they said the Words “I love you” to their spouses often. And of 100 Divorced couples, out of a 100 comments, 10 are demeaning.

On James 3:5

Tongue is like a Fire. Like the wild fire in California, the tongue has the capacity to direct and destroy.

Top 10 Common Abuses of the tongue
10. Bad Mouthing/Back Biting
9. Slandering
8. Gossiping
7. Tongue Lashing/Anger
6. Cursing
5. Boasting
4. Grumbling/Complaining
3. Course Joking
2. Lying
1. Using God’s name in Vain – it seems Jesus name has become just an expression, when the bible says, it is the name above all names and is to be worshiped.

Some relationship’s in the family are broken because of hurtful words said. A destructive power of misusing the gift of the tongue.

Can we tame our the tongues?

In James 3: 8 it says, NO MAN CAN TAME THE TONGUE

Matthew 12: 34-35

You brood of Vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him

If you want to check the temperature of the heart, check what comes out of the tongue.
What is coming out of your mouth when you are talking with your spouse, parents, brothers and sisters?
Heart – Spiritual…its what God looks at.

To tame the tongue, we must first humble ourselves that we can’t do it on our own and come to God for help.

Ezekiel 36:26

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Have you said some words that you wish you can retrieve?

Words pleasing to God is our hearts under his lordship.
Will you allow God to be the captain of your ship?

II Corinthians 5: 17

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.

A changed Heart reflects changed words coming out of that mans mouth.

What would you rather speak of?
Curses or Blessings
Insulting or Praising and encouraging…

I believe no one is exempted from this message.

Father God, we ask for forgiveness for all the negative words we have said towards others and towards ourselves. Help us to submit our hearts to you, that we may gain a heart of love and faithfulness, that what comes out of our mouths will be pleasing to you and an encouragement to others. In Jesus name, Amen.
