My verse for 2010, Proverbs 21:21

No Gravatar

I was doing my devotion yesterday and God gave me Proverbs 21:21 as a theme verse for 2010.
21 He who pursues righteousness and love
finds life, prosperity [a] and honor.

I didn’t notice how 21 appeared in both the verses and the year, just now, pretty cool.

And today the word is very much related to it. Let me share the notes I jotted down from the preaching of the Word by Ptr. Edgar at Victory Center, UP Film Center.

Hosea 10 :12
12 Sow for yourselves righteousness,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the LORD,
until he comes
and showers righteousness on you
How do we seek God.
3 Ways to seek God?
1. The right Seed – Sow for yourselves righteousness.
What you sow is what you reap.
Choices we make and actions we take are seeds.

We have to sow the seeds of righteousness ourselves. Our parents, significant, others or pastors can’t do it for us. We must sow seeds of righteousness ourselves.

What is righteousness? It is being in the right standing with God.

2. The Right Soil – “and break up your unplowed grounds and reap the fruits of unfailing love.
Unused or idle soil are hardened with weeds.
In the parable of the Sower, it talked about different soils representing different hearts. How receptive we are on the word being planted in our hearts.

A hardened heart- a heart that resists what God wants to do with us.
A hardened soil will have weeds and thorns that make planting unhealthy or unproductive.

To name two weeds that can harden our soil (our hearts) is Pride and Disobediences.

Daniel 5: 20
20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.

Hebrews 3:13
13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Our conscience can be calloused & desensitized, because of repeatedly ignoring the heed of the Holy Spirit, our hearts become callous and can no longer hear.

A broken spirit, He will not despise.

Sometimes we can surrender all areas of our hearts except one, something we don’t want given over to God, such as some addictions, sexual immorality, adultery, ungodly relationships or practices, un forgiveness.

Break it up, till the soil, and trust God to deal with it.

What happens if we don’t break it? Weeds crowd out.

There is this teenager who grew up in a Godly home who was asking her mom if she could watch a movie with friends. The movie will seem to show a lot of obscenity, but since everyone is watching, it would probably be fine.

Her mom said she doesn’t recommend it, but while they prepare dinner, the teener insists coz it seems acceptable. Her mom just finished doing the salads, and while she cleans up, instead of putting the peeling from the potatoes in the trash, she put it on the salad. The daughter got surprised and asked why her mom would do that. Her Mom replied, that’s what happens when you go out there and see an obscene film, it’s like putting garbage to your soul and spoil the rest of it, and can no longer be useful. If you can put garbage to your soul, maybe you wouldn’t mind putting garbage to your body.

Whether that is a true story or not, we get the picture.

Deliberate compromising will make our heart callous. We can’t have the concept of abusing God’s grace, compromise and ask forgiveness after.

3. Right Time –“until he comes & showers Righteousness on you” Some are very impatient. Lord, bless me and I will obey, if you don’t then I won’t follow you.
Don’t give up on seeking the Lord, in due time you will reap a harvest of blessings.

If you have a bank account that gets a daily credit of USD 86,400 a day but at the end of the day goes down to zero even if you withdraw from it or not, unspent amount is not credited to the next day, what would you do? Withdraw it everyday and spend it, right?

Every day, you are given 84,600 seconds to do what is right and plant seeds of righteousness for a harvest of blessing you will not have enough room to contain it.

One way to seek God is by doing prayer and fasting. We invite you to join us from Jan. 8-14, 2010 for a 7 Day prayer and fasting.

The Climb starring Jason George and Ned Vaughn

When I got out of church yesterday, i saw a DVD showing two guys climbing at mountain caught my eye and so i bought it for Doug, just taking the chance that he might not have watched it yet, but he had lol…If he hasn’t I wanted to wait for him to arrive next month and we’ll watch it together, like we watched Fireproof together, so since he’d seen it, I watched it already lol, with my Mom, sister Ming and housemate Tess.

the-climb-nedvaughn-jasongeorge

It’s a story of two mountain climbers (played by Jason and Ned) who saved another climber Josh who got into an accident that could have costed him his life. Josh’s Father happened to be very wealthy and wanted to thank the heroes who saved his son by helping them make their dream of climbing a Mountrain in Chile come true. And there the moving story of team work, sacrifice and life changing experiences took place.

Ned believed in God and shared his faith with Jason who doesn’t care much about faith or anything less than his passion for climbing. The challenges they encountered tested their personal capacities and realized it takes more than just the will to make it.

It’s a movie every mountain climber or sports man should watch, however, it’s really a movie for all to appreciate. Try to get a copy of this DVD and be touched by a heartwarming story of a man going after dreams, a man of integrity that shapes ones future and a God who has our best interest in mind.

5 Things  learned from the movie, The Climb?
1. Passion brings success.

When we are passionate about what we are doing, to the point that we are willing to do it even if we don’t get paid, we become excellent in it and we will serve before Kings. Meaning we will gain favor when we do things the best way we can with commitment and dedication.

Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.
Proverbs 22:29

2. Integrity is prime..

Ned said “my integrity is not for sale”, I believe in this very strongly myself. To be truthful and honest in our dealings no matter what it takes. We are do serve with all honesty at all times.
In my walk as a Christian I had my own share of putting myself in compromising situations, but thank God for his grace and forgiveness when we ask for it, and we can get back on our feet and take the high road.

Proverbs 3:3-4
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

3. Take Responsibility
Family is the most important institution on earth and so our significant other and family members are to be our priority and making every effort to build a strong relationship will give us the most fulfillment.
There is an emptiness in our hearts that only God can fill, no amount of success can do.

Proverbs 13:10
Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
We can’t be all knowing, we need wisdom to make decisions specially the toughest ones.

4. Dream Big

We have to fill our thoughts of what we want and believe God for it.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

5. Train and be ready to achieve your Dream

We can view some parts of life like a serious game that needs to be won for us to have significant results and achieve a certain level of success that gives us rewards. That only happens when we win. I believe in the saying that success comes to those who are prepared. And preparation and training must be holistic, body, mind, soul and spirit.

1 Corinthians 9:25

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

I hope you can grab a copy of this film and watch it. I got the DVD from Victory Christian Fellowship bookstore at UP Diliman – Film Center.

Having a Right Foundation

No Gravatar

Let’s enjoy the song, I live, I breath.

I hope you enjoyed the song.

Have you heard of the famous Filipino sayings “kasabihan”?Tumalon pag bag taon para tumangkad

(Jump during New Year’s eve so you will become tall) How many of you did that? lol… It’s genetics that plays a role in how tall we can be :-)

We can be sincere, but end up proven sincerely wrong about the things we got used to believing.

Being shared at church right now is having a Right Foundation to progress in our christian life. Please allow me to share the notes I took.

Repentance and Faith
Hebrews 6:11Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,[a] and of faith in God.Repentance from dead works, but Faith in God.

The first foundation we need to have is to have Repentance. A changed mind that leads to a change in action. A change in lifestyle.

What is Repentance? It is a change of thought and action to correct a wrong and gain forgiveness from a person who is wronged.

Repentance is different from remorse or regret.

Let us read 2 Corinthians 7:10-11 (New International Version)10Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 11See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

Do you remember the story of Adam and Eve when they ate the fruit from the Tree of life? After eating what God said is forbidden, they had shame in their hearts and covered themselves. What did God do? He killed an animal and covered them.

Because Man, you and I fell into sin, we need to repent and be forgiven. We can’t clean and just cover up our sins. What has to happen is for someone to die for us and cover our sins for us. It’s what Jesus Christ did for us.

Dirty laundry goes where? to the Washing Machine. Dirty clothes can’t clean themselves. We can’t clean ourselves too. We need the blood of Jesus Christ to clean us, by faith. In the presence of God, there is true forgiveness. We don’t need to do things to earn forgiveness, we just have to have faith.

No good works will ever outweigh the bad things we have done.

Isaiah 64:6 (New International Version)6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

ALL our righteous acts are like filthy rags. It is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is what will free us from all kinds of guilt and shame. It’s about accepting the love of God that he sent his one and only son for you and I so we can be forgiven and be guilt free.

How many of you dream of wanting that you can wake up and things just be new again? Guess what, you can have that today. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ can save us and free us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (New International Version)
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.
It’s a GIFT! No need to do anything to have it, just accept it. No requirements of any kind of good work, just faith, believing in your heart, accepting the love of God.

Have you tried the Stationary Bike? How many of you agree that no matter how hard and long you stride on these bikes, you are not gonna get anywhere? Yes, you will get tired and lose some fats and calories, but still you are in the same place.

What will get you to the place of God’s best, is what Christ has done, not what you can do. The right foundation to achieve maturity in the spirit and be strong in this life is to have a foundation of Repentance first and foremost and having faith in God.

Instead of being in a spiritual stationary bike state, be on a pedicab, sit back and let God do the driving.

One wife asked his husband: Do you love me? he answered Yes. and she asked Why? He said, I love you, period! (No conditions!) We are so used to works mentality, that we get uneasy to come across unconditional love. We are used to doing to earn love, instead of doing because we love. It’s  not what we can do, but what he has done. Jesus did die for us because he loves us, not because we did something that earns his love.

It is done, it is finished.

Hebrews 9:14-15 (New International Version)
14How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[a] so that we may serve the living God!
15For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Receive the gift of life and freedom today! Let us repent from our old ways and have faith in God.
